He wrote a history of Inverness. He was married, and died about 1857, aged fifty leaving a family. J P Maclean, Page 385-386 Died 51 years old. Finlay went blind towards the end of his life. He worked as a printer for Lord Lovat (of the Frasers of Beaully) and presented in church alongside his father.
