Note: Margaret was born in Inverness and moved to Windygates. She may have been a governess with a wealthy family to have travelled to Windygates, where she met and married William Brown. She was known for speaking well and often this indicate that she grew up speaking Gaelic (as often those who learnt to speak English later in life spoke it very well), or she was well educated. She would often return to Inverness for holidays, taking one of her grandchildren with her.
