Christening
witnesses at the baptism were Cormack and Thomson. The baptism entry seems to have been added to the registry book later and is at the bottom page of the June and July entries and is very indistinct on the microfilm.
Immigration
John arrived in Sydney on the 9 April 1838 on the ship "Minerva". His immigration details stated his occupation to be joiner and carpenter, his religion Presbyterian, he was able to read and write and his age was “about” 22. The sessions clerk states John had been baptised 22 Feb. 1816, which agrees with the parish registers for Wick. John stated his native place was Wick, Caithness and his father John Sutherland was a shoemaker there.
